About the Angolan National Committee
Students from different countries are selected for UWC colleges by the National Committees (NC) of their countries. Currently, there are National Committees in over 155 countries across the world.
A wide variety of individuals make up UWC national committees, including:
- UWC alumni
- Parents of alumni
- Education professionals, and
- Community leaders who have embraced UWC’s mission and values.
Our volunteers serving on national committees exist to:
- Promote UWC to prospective students and parents
- Encourage and support applications
- Select UWC scholars and prepare them for their UWC experience.
The Angolan National Committee was formed in 2002.
Our mission is to raise awareness of United World Colleges in Angola and ensure a greater diversity of Angolan applicants and students from different cultural and economic backgrounds in the UWC community.
Students are nominated yearly since the NC’s inception. Once nominated, students go through a selection phase carried out by the NC. As soon as the final candidates are selected, they start working on their application to the UWC school to which they were selected to attend.
The first students selected by the NC attended Waterford Kamhlaba, in Mbabane, Eswatini, between 2003 and 2004.
To date, 51 Angolan NC alumni have participated (or are participating) in several UWCs, including:
UWC Adriatic, Italy
